Novel

The Scarlet Songbird

Written by Seraphina Pembrook

The first novel in the Souly Damned series. It is an introduction to a world that appears to be our own in most ways and vastly different in others. While the world itself has more below its surface this first book serves as a way to ease people into the nearly 200+ hours of content required in its creation. At first this was to be the main focus of the project only for it to expand late 2025 into other multimedia, animation being the primary. The aspirations for the future of this project is to expand the studio into other areas using the IP in its forefront of the creative process.

The novel follows female private investigator Evelyn Rodgers and her descent into Ashwick city’s netherworld. A slew of strange disappearances and occurrences has left her following a trail of red strings all converging to one singular point. The most prestigious club in the entire city, Noctis. Exclusive, lavish, and mysterious there is not much known about the establishment or its elusive owner. In an effort to get to the bottom of the mysteries of the city Eve attempts to go undercover and expose the seedy dark side of the illustrious Keswick family.

" It's one of those nights, the rain slicks the streets, reflecting the sordid underbelly of this concrete jungle, where corruption runs deeper than the scars on a boxing prizefighter's face. An unending metropolis of a city, where the neon lights flicker like the promises of a two-timing dame. This city has a heartbeat, but it beats irregularly, like the tapping of a worn poker player's chip on the table of a massive gamble. Distraction. Deception. Whispers on the streets speak of something darker, something more sinister than the usual back-alley deals and crooked cops on the take. There is a tension in the air, thick as the smoke in a speakeasy, and I can feel it crawling under my skin like a rat in a sewer. Turn a blind eye. An art deco Tower of Babel adorned with glitz and glamor soaring above like a cruel watchful god while the faces of those gone missing, haunt its adorned exterior hidden with an all consuming penumbra displaying a morbid collage of decaying remembrance of friends and family.

And I am confined, key slipping just beyond my grasp, within this gilded cage of madness scrutinizing every alley and each shadow. Some would say that those who live here are adrift, doomed to navigate these serpentine streets lured by any siren's call. And in a city where everyone has a price, finding the truth means wading through a swampy mire of deceit and betrayal. But I'm no stranger to the darkness. I've danced with the devil more times than I care to count, and I have the scars to prove it. Because in this city, you either play the game or you get played. And me? I will cradle these shattered pieces within my arms and piece them back together, following every viper, every leech that tries to sink its teeth into my flesh to impede my path even if I have to sell my soul to do it. Justice will come to light. "

Or so begins, Souly Damned: The Scarlet Songbird, a 1920's Noir Thriller following Incognito Private Investigator, Eve Rodgers. Who is determined to free this town from the monstrous claws that run its seedy underbelly. However, her suspicions are proven to run deeper than anticipated when she gets in good with the Keswick Brothers. Leaders of the largest crime ring in the city, whose aspirations are not ones of mortal gain, but Infernal Punishment.

Stylistically it pulls from series like Castlevania, Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler), and Batman the Animated Series. Scenes from the book were chosen to be made into an aesthetically pleasing anime-esque opening trailer showcasing the main cast. Our team's resumes span everything from media like Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss, Knights of Guenivere, Castlevania, McGee’s Alice, and many more. It also includes a star studded voice cast from across video games and anime! Check out our incredible team and their accomplishments in the industry. It will give a taste of what Souly Damned has in store, specifically the first novel in the series setting the scene for its mystery, romance, and horror themes.

Pre production began September of 2025 though the story and its world have been in the works for over a decade. Our projections are to have the animated trailer completed and released to the public in Q3 of 2026. Here you can see some character turn arounds and storyboards as a sneak peak of what is to come. We will use this short as a pitching tool to indie studios to aspire to bring SD to the public in the form of an animated show. Please consider supporting the studio through our campaign. It helps us expand this world and bring it to life.
